PC Hikers atop Mt. Humphreys
Lynn Warren
On September 12 five B hikers capped off a record breaking season with the traditional season ending hike to the top of Mt. Humphreys, the highest point in Arizona. The Hiking Club set a new record with over 14,000 miles hiked since the beginning of the season in September, 2013. The hike to Mt. Humphreys’ summit starts at 9,000 feet and ascends to 12,633 feet at the top; the air gets a lot thinner near the top so the hikers stopped frequently to rest but this was not a problem since it was a sunny, Chamber of Commerce day. The Hiking Club meets in the Tuscany Ballroom on the third Thursday of the month and hikes five days a week with a hike for almost every level of fitness. Visit the club’s website at pchikers.org for more information and pictures.

On September 29 seven members of the PebbleCreek Hiking Club did a hike on the new Fantasy Island North Singletrack (FINS) bike track. FINS is a series of interconnected trails in Estrella Mountain Ranch developed by the local bike club. The sign Ryn is trying to cover up refers to one of the more challenging trails for bikers – you can see part of it underneath the Hellooo, Lunch sign on the right. The club does hikes as close as Verrado and as far as Prescott and Sedona. Hikes range from four miles with about 200 feet of elevation change, to 12 plus miles and over 2000 feet of elevation change.
