On May 23, five PebbleCreek B hikers decided to check out a couple of new segments on the PCT—no, not the Pacific Crest Trail but a little closer to home on the Prescott Circle Trail. Since the hike began at around 6,000 feet elevation, and it was a little before the really hot weather hit, long sleeves actually felt pretty comfortable. Although the 9.5 mile hike was mostly on trails through wooded terrain, a nice change from the usual desert terrain, the hikers warmed up quickly since there was a lot of up and down with a cumulative elevation gain of 1,700 feet. The snowbirds are gone and are probably relaxing in cooler climes but a few members of the club brave the summer heat twice a week to conduct exploratory hikes to interesting areas, including Prescott and Sedona, hopefully to find new trails to include in the next season’s schedule; visit the club website at pchikers.org for more information and photos.

Six members of the PebbleCreek Hiking Club did a loop hike on May 12 in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve near Piestewa Peak. It was another great day to hike. The 1-A loop trail offers very nice views of the Phoenix area and surrounding mountain ranges. Hikers that day included (left to right) Lynn Warren (photographer), Jim Gillespie, Wayne Wills, Helen Lewandowski (hike leader), Pete Williams and Mark Frumkin. Only the hardiest of hikers brave the summer heat, but the group lucked out today with mild temperatures for this date. Our full slate of eight hikes a week, spanning three hike levels, will begin again on September 19. For more information and additional club photos check out our website at
