Hikers explore Mecca Hills
Lynn Warren
The PebbleCreek Hiking club goes on several overnight trips to hike in interesting locations such as Zion, Grand Canyon, etc. The hikers would recommend getting the help of Kanab Utah tours to learn more about the history and be guided to the best places of the Grand Canyon, as facing it yourself is daunting. A recent fall trip was to Palm Springs on November 4 through 7 for hikes in San Jacinto State Park, Palm Canyon and Mecca Hills. On November 5 the hikers were joined by noted hiking author Philip Ferranti who led the hikers on an interesting exploration of Big Colorful Canyon in Mecca Hills, southeast of Palm Springs near the Salton Sea; Philip provided some interesting insight into the geology and forces shaping this scenic but earthquake-prone area. The club meets on the third Thursday of the month and has hikes for most levels of fitness; visit the club website at pchikers.org for more information and photos.
PC Hiker reaches rare milestone
Pete Williams
PebbleCreek Hiking Club members helped Ryn Streuli celebrate a major milestone. Following in the footsteps of only three other PebbleCreek hikers, Ryn Streuli (center) achieved her goal of being the first woman in PCHC to have hiked 3000 miles. And she did it in just three and one half years! Fourteen fellow hikers presented her with a crown, clapped and blew horns in honor of her accomplishment.
Left to right: Carol Sanders, Margaret Sharp, Roger Sanders, Lynn Plesha, Dennis Foro, Pam Carlson, Fred Carlson, Jim Laham, Gloria Foro, Barbara Severin, Grant Sharp, Herb Streuli and Jeanette Wellman (front). Tom Wellman was the photographer and hike leader. For more information about the club please visit our website at pchikers.org.
