What do you do with cardboard paper towel and tissue paper rolls, Styrofoam meat packaging, used dryer sheets and scraps of yarn? You turn them into art!
That is what artist volunteers Marianne Graff, Nancy Hampton and Charlene Romanos, from the PebbleCreek Art Club, recently demonstrated in a workshop on Recycle Art at Opportunity House in Avondale. Opportunity House is a community outreach free program for underserved children, generally ranging in age from Kindergarten through fifth grade.
The children who attend these workshops are very receptive and excited to participate in creating art projects. “It was amazing to see the children’s creative minds at work,” said Nancy Hampton, the program’s coordinator who volunteers all summer arranging these art workshops. PebbleCreek Art Club and Arizona Art Alliance have adopted Opportunity House as a charitable outreach program and provide funds for materials as well as club member volunteers.
The idea to incorporate a recycle art workshop for children was to help them re-imagine everyday objects which are normally discarded and use them in creating art.
The PC Art Club plans to include a special Art of Recycling juried exhibition as part of their annual Art Walk on Saturday, October 22, 2016. The show will be at Tuscany Falls from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. with every art medium represented in the exhibit and for sale. All PC Art Club members are invited to show their work, so be sure to mark your calendars for this exciting event.
