On Thursday, November 5, 2015, at the PebbleCreek Republican Club sixth annual Event and Dinner Honoring Our Veterans, the featured speaker Sheriff Joe Arpaio, conferred the honor of Special Deputy Captain for the Maricopa County, Arizona to Paul White. Paul received the honor of Special Deputy last year on his 104th birthday, making a trip to the Sheriff’s office in downtown Phoenix. Sheriff Joe promised Paul he would be promoted to Captain on Paul’s 105th birthday. Sheriff Joe kept his promise. Paul White will be 105 years young on December 18, 2015.

Paul was born in Bournemouth, England in 1910. He served with the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) in France during the early stages of the Second World War and was involved in the evacuation from the Dunkirk.

In 1946, finding the British government too socialistic on business, he immigrated to Toronto, Canada, where he worked for the Continental Can Company, then transferred to the United States in 1948.

During his 104 years he has traveled, lived and worked in many countries. These included England, Canada, Mexico, Burma, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, India, Sri-Lanka, Bangladesh, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, China and Tibet. His last foreign post was with the World Bank in Katmandu, Nepal. He always enjoyed the challenges and demands imposed with dealing with different cultures.

After returning to and doing business in Los Angeles, California, for a number of years he determined that he needed a change of scenery and decided to move to Goodyear, Arizona, where he’s been enjoying life in PebbleCreek for the last 10 years.
