Sheriff Joe Arpaio honors Paul White

Congratulations to PebbleCreek resident Paul White who celebrated his 104th birthday in December! To commemorate the event, Paul was sworn in as a Special Deputy by Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. The Sheriff and Paul had met recently at the Republican Club of PebbleCreek dinner honoring veterans. Sheriff Joe invited Paul to his office to receive this honor. It was a day to remember. Sheriff Joe was a most gracious host and it was a pleasure to be in his office on this memorable day.

In his over 100 years Paul has traveled the world, learned about many people and their cultures and has held a number of interesting positions and achieved many accomplishments. Paul White was born in Bornemouth, England, in 1910. He joined the Territorial Army and fought in the Second World War. His unit was forced to evacuate at Dunkirk. After the war Paul decided to emigrate. He wrote to the South African, Canadian and Australian High Commissioners applying for a permit. The first reply he received was from Canada. He landed in Toronto in 1947 and soon was hired by Continental Can Corporation with assignments throughout Canada and the United States.

After establishing permanent residence in New York in 1950, he was assigned to work in Burma under the U.S. Government Point 4 Program. Upon returning to the states, he became an American citizen in 1955. Then he joined ITT where his assignments included Mexico City, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand. Next he assumed a senior position in Mexico City, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand. Next he assumed senior management positions in Japan, India, Sri-Lanka and Bangladesh. His last assignment abroad was with the World Bank in Katmandu, Nepal.

Upon returning to the USA he joined TOSCO (The Oil Shale Corporation) as Director of Corporate Development where, among other things, he worked on a joint project with Goodyear Tire to extract oil from used tires at a plant in Rocky Flats outside Denver, Colorado.

In his leisure time he also visited Spain, Portugal, China and Tibet. In 2005 he moved from Los Angeles, California, to Goodyear, Arizona, where he is a resident of PebbleCreek.
