P.E.O. Chapter DM is presenting our eighth annual scholarship benefit, Books ‘N’ Lunch, to be held at Christ Presbyterian Church, 925 N. Sarival Ave. Goodyear, AZ, on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at 11:30 a.m. Many members of Chapter DM are your neighbors in PebbleCreek.
This year we have two dynamic local authors. Connie Cockrell: a 20 year Air Force career, a manager at a computer operations company, wife, mother, sister and volunteer, provides a rich background for her story-telling. She writes about whatever comes into her head so her books could be in any genre. She published 17 books, has been included in five anthologies and published on EveryDayStories.com and FrontierTales.com. Connie’s always on the lookout for a good story idea. Beware, you may be the next.
Secondly, we have Dr. Kristen Nelson, a veterinarian, speaker and author. In 2010 Kris was diagnosed with cancer by her cat. Because of Tigre’s early diagnosis, she is cancer-free today. Her experience as a business owner, clinician and cancer survivor inspires a unique perspective on the human-animal bond and business lessons from the animal kingdom. These animals have provided an endless supply of funny stories and lessons to a diversified audience. Her two books, Coated with Fur: A Vet’s Life and Coated with Fur: A Blind Cat’s Love, have received five stars from Amazon. Kris and her husband share their home in Cave Creek, AZ with rescued cats, birds and a dog.
This promises to be a stimulating and fun-filled event. Both authors will give brief talks about their backgrounds and will take questions afterward.
P.E.O. is a philanthropic organization where women celebrate the advancement of women. We help educate women through scholarships, grants, loans and stewardship of Cottey College. We work to motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations.
