Overseeding of grassy common areas

Susan Knox Wilson

To the great joy of all PebbleCreek birds and critters, it’s time, once again, to overseed the grassy common areas. Aeration and overseeding is a very important process for us to undertake, in order for our gardens to look good. The overseeding will begin September 19 and continue through October 9. During this period, the Dog Park and Sunrise Park will be closed along with the Clubhouse lawns and grassy areas along the curbs.

Overseeding is the secret to PebbleCreek’s beautiful lawns and is part of the comprehensive, proactive plan we have to keep the grass looking great. As most of you gardeners know, there are distinct cool and warm growing seasons in the low desert, with different types of turf thriving in each. Because our temperatures range from 25-degree winter nights to 120-degree summer days, it is impossible to find one grass type that will remain green and healthy all year long. Instead, for year-round green turf, we must overseed our warm-weather bermuda-grass in fall with cool-season ryegrass.

Please remember that during these overseeding time periods, the sprinklers will be on during the day and it is possible to get some over spray on you or your golf cart or vehicle if you park along the curb next to the overseeded areas.
