Outside resident instructor: Drawing 101 with Malcolm Blazer

Sherri Heitz

Malcolm has been a drawing instructor for over 30 years, as well as conducting classes in oil, acrylic, and watercolor. He has taught in art stores and art clubs since arriving in the valley in 1989, and also judged for clubs and art shows.

For several years he has instructed in art classes at the Estrella Mountain Community College, Community Education Department. Also at EMCC, he has conducted classes in digital camera and landscape photography, drawing on his years as a professional photographer.

Malcolm studied at Laguna Beach College of Art and Design when it was Laguna Beach School of Art. Before starting life as a full time professional artist, he also enjoyed a career of music, studying at the Wisconsin conservatory of Music, and receiving a BA in Music from Oklahoma City University, and a Masters in Piano from UNM.

Since his studies at Laguna, he has painted plein Air from Hawaii to New York, and has paintings in private and corporate collections throughout the US. Malcolm has been featured in media including a San Diego newspaper while he was drawing trains on location and AZ Highway TV program, as he was painting watercolor at Lake Pleasant.

He believes that drawing will help anyone to paint whatever they wish, and enjoys sharing his love of drawing with all. We are so fortunate to have him teaching here in PebbleCreek.

Malcolm will be giving another drawing 101 class soon. He will be giving an intermediate/advanced drawing course. Watch for the announcement of both classes.

I can speak from experience—this is a wonderful teacher and he has much wonderful knowledge.
