Marilyn Reynolds, President PebbleCreek Ladies’ Golf Association
Last spring, after a bigoted letter was sent to a resident in PebbleCreek, I and more than a hundred fellow residents attended the Board meeting to demand action. To their credit, Robson Communities, Inc. and the HOA Board immediately took steps to address such behavior. Those efforts included:
Sending an open letter to the PebbleCreek community denouncing this behavior.
Distributing the PebbleCreek Code of Conduct through the PebbleCreek Post.
Working with a resident advisory group to begin a feature column in the PebbleCreek Post called “Building Bridges,” designed to highlight diversity and inclusion.
Sponsoring the film series, Race, the Power of an Illusion, followed by an open and frank audience discussion.
Despite those efforts, there was another bigoted incident that impacted the PebbleCreek Ladies’ Golf Association (PCLGA). As a result of this incident, the PCLGA began the Orange Ribbon Campaign. The PebbleCreek Ladies’ Nine Hole Golf Association joined us immediately. We purchased orange ribbons with the printed words “Respect for All.” You may have seen some of these women golfers with orange ribbons proudly identifying their support for racial tolerance and cultural diversity.
I am a product of the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s, as are most residents at PebbleCreek. I believe that virtually all of us at PebbleCreek are not okay with any act which discriminates against another person. Whether you are a golfer or not, if you would like to promote our neighborhood as one without prejudice, we invite you to join in the Orange Ribbon Campaign. This small gesture demonstrates our united front in support of respect for all members of our community.
Orange ribbons are available free of charge at the golf shop desks both at Eagle’s Nest and at Tuscany Falls. Please pick one up and wear it proudly to show our solidarity and support for this important cause.
