Norm Post was crowned the 2020 PebbleCreek Men’s Golf Association Club champion. The tournament was held on Feb. 6 at Tuscany Falls West and on Feb. 13 at Tuscany Falls East. There were only two rounds this year, as Eagle’s Nest was closed for renovation.
Norm shot a total 145 gross score, ultimately winning by five shots. There was lots of excitement during the final round. Norm started the day with a three-shot lead over his playing partner Reuben Rivera. He had a six-shot lead over Terry Smith and six-time club champion Jack Schafer who were playing two groups ahead. On the front nine, Norm made a double bogey at hole No. 6, allowing his closest competitors to catch up. Jack birdied that hole and picked up three shots right there.
Norm shot 39 on the front nine while Reuben shot 36, Terry 36, and Jack 35. So, after nine holes, Norm and Reuben were tied, Jack was two shots back and Terry was three shots back. Jack got within one of the lead with a birdie on hole No. 10. Norm took the lead back on hole No. 11. Norm’s real surge occurred on the three-hole stretch of 13, 14, and 15 when he went birdie, birdie, par. He picked up three shots on Jack and four shots on Reuben. Norm parred in from there to take the crown.
Norm is from Calgary, Alberta. This was his first time playing in the PCMGA Club Championship.
A total of 110 players competed in seven separate flights. The championship flight played from the black/blue mixed tees. Three flights played from the blue tees and three flights played from the white tees.
