Do you have a lifetime of UFO’s (unfinished objects) hiding in your home? This is not unusual for crafters, sewers, and quilters. In 2019, Tori Benz-Hillstrom and Linda Shaver were discussing Marie Kondo’s methods of tidying up and how they personally had accumulated more projects and fabric than could be used in a lifetime, and the idea for a small group was formed. They held two meetings with other quilters when the COVID-19 shutdown occurred. The opportunity to kickstart their goals and tackle many projects emerged. They shared ideas on cleaning out, organizing, and completing projects that had lingered in closets for years. “What do you want to spend your retirement years engaged in?” was asked of members. Skills were developed such as shop your stash, time management, “Admire, Not Acquire!,” and to be mindful and intentional on what you keep and what you give away.
Monthly PebbleCreek Quilters gatherings are held to cheer others on ideas on how to get UFOs done and/or work on them. Our “No Shame Train” casts no judgment, just praise for tackling those unfinished projects. Ultimately, it is a wonderful way to meet others, share ideas, and enjoy time creating.
