News from the Sky: Opportunities to Grow Your Career or Business at Phoenix Airports

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is not only a vital part of the State’s economy, but it’s an award-winning airport to work for and do business. Phoenix Sky Harbor, America’s Friendliest Airport®, recently received the Airport of the Year Award from the Airport Minority Advisory Council (AMAC) at the 39th Annual AMAC Airport Business Diversity Conference Catalyst Awards. This award honors an airport for its significant contribution toward DBE, ACDBE, or EEO goals within an airport in support of diversity inclusion.

Phoenix Sky Harbor was recognized for its efforts at fostering growth and development through outreach efforts. These outreach efforts include Business Information Meetings, the quarterly Business Education Series, the Aviation Business Summit, and participating in community and industry events.

The City of Phoenix Aviation Department, which owns and operates Phoenix Sky Harbor, Phoenix Deer Valley and Phoenix Goodyear airports, is committed to continuing to grow and encourage outreach with the small business community. Coming up in September, the Department plans to have the next session in our Business Education SeriesAll About Aviation. This session will be a partnership with the City’s Equal Opportunity Department and will feature an overview of the City’s Small and Disadvantaged Business programs. If you are interested in getting certified, please visit the outreach page on skyharbor.com to find out more.

Additionally, the Department is starting to plan toward next year’s Aviation Business Summit which will take place in the first quarter of 2025. The free event, which will be in its seventh year, provides attendees with the opportunity to learn how to do business with the City of Phoenix Aviation Department. Previous workshop topics have covered information on the city’s procurement process, the security and badging process, upcoming opportunities, and much more. Attendees will also have the opportunity to visit the many exhibitor booths and network with airport staff and business partners. Past attendees have found the Summit to be incredibly helpful in learning how to do business with the airport and making connections with the community. Additional details on how to register will be available in the coming months on skyharbor.com.

The AMAC Award is the third award Phoenix Sky Harbor has received in recent months. In June, the Airport also received a Business Excellence Award from the Tempe Chamber of Commerce and earlier this year, the airport received Employer of the Year recognition from Women in Transportation (WTS).

If you or someone you know is looking for a job, Phoenix Sky Harbor offers a number of positions. In fact, each month, the Airport holds a Job Fair at the 44th Street PHX Sky Train® Station. Various companies participate with hundreds of positions available. Opportunities range from working for an airline to various roles at the City of Phoenix Aviation Department, or even managing concessions, ensuring aircraft are cleaned and fueled, or providing top products, food, and services to travelers and customers. Employers offer a variety of benefits, and Phoenix Sky Harbor also has a childcare scholarship program. Job Fairs are held on the second Tuesday of each month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The next job fair will be held on Sept. 3. For more information, visit skyharbor.com/jobs.
