Two PebbleCreek residents recently graduated from the city of Goodyear’s inaugural Leadership Enrichment and Development (LEAD) program. Gregg Clymer, past HOA Board vice-president, and Maureen McCann, a Realtor with Realty ONE’s PebbleCreek Real Estate Group, completed the 12-week program and were recognized for their commitment at a ceremony at Estrella Foothills High School.

LEAD’s purpose is to develop civic mindedness and inspire residents to become increasingly engaged in their communities. The 20-hour series began in January with the maximum enrollment of 40 Goodyear residents – all from different backgrounds, age groups and neighborhoods. The stringent attendance criteria led to only 27 graduating and achieving alumni status.

In addition to “behind the scenes” tours of the Goodyear Ball Park and recycling plant, LEAD covered such areas as public finance, economic development, city planning and neighborhood leadership. For Gregg and Maureen, a highlight of their participation was interacting with the city manager and various department heads on a weekly basis.

The program offered many insights into Goodyear. The city is growing quickly and thriving in so many ways. For example, each class began with a networking meal catered by a neighborhood restaurant – many of those being locally owned and well worth visiting.

As alums of the program, Gregg and Maureen are encouraged to participate on various city commissions and committees. The training would also be helpful if they were considering running for public office – which both assert, at least for the present, “Ain’t gonna happen!”
