Model Railroad shines at the holidays

A train is a traditional part of holiday decorations. This time of year many folks break out their trains and want them to run. When they don’t run, the owners think of asking PCMRC for help.

Many decorative trains are three-rail O-27 (Lionel) or S-scale (American Flyer). Some are even larger and may run on plastic track, due to on-board batteries. None of these are the types of trains that we have a lot of experience with, thus, we may or may not be able to help. If we can’t, we can refer you to some local shops that can. We would love to have a Lionel expert in the club.

Just remember that this is a big month for retail sales, and shops are stretched thin covering all the bases and repairs are likely to take a back seat. If you are planning on running a train for your holiday decorations, put this paper down and go check it out, now! If it doesn’t work, you may have enough time to get it repaired before the end of the year.

Last month we had our first open house of the season. On Black Friday (November 27) we enjoyed hosting lots of children of all ages, our neighbors and friends.

If you missed that one, plan on our next open house on Saturday, December 26. We’ll be open from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Weather permitting we’ll show our garden layout and O-scale modular layout. No matter what the weather, we’ll be running the Great Lakes Western (indoor) HO layout.

This all will be at the Eagle’s Nest Activities Center – in the courtyard and room 106.

If your family’s schedule doesn’t allow you to catch the open house, we are working on or running the GLW railroad every Tuesday and Thursday morning. This work and fun goes on every month of the year. Members are here by 9:00 a.m. (or occasionally a bit after) and we leave for lunch together about 11:30 a.m. If you are interested in railroads, model railroading or just hanging out with some folks, consider coming by about 11:00 a.m. and going to lunch with us.

Outside those times, members may be available to show off our railroad. Make arrangements with Mark Pelletier (847-224-5653) or Chuck Weart (623-535-0325).

The PebbleCreek Model Railroad Club has been a part of community life here since 1998. We are headquartered in the Eagle’s Nest Activities Center, room 106. Members are there on Tuesday and Thursday mornings – but not always running trains. You can always keep up with the PCMRC on the web (www.pcmrc.org).
