On May 3 the Men’s Christian Fellowship is pleased to have as their speaker former NFL defensive tackle James Jones. James will be sharing his personal testimony of being an NFL player and how serving God has changed his life. After an outstanding college career at the University of Northern Iowa, James was a third-round pick in the 1991 NFL draft and drafted by the Cleveland Browns. He played with the Browns for four years and went on to play one year with the Broncos, three years with the Ravens and two years with the Detroit Lions. In his 10 seasons in the NFL James never missed a game. This year James is being inducted into the Iowa Sports Hall of Fame which honors outstanding athletes who played for an Iowa college or university. James is a caregiver to his wife Son-Ja and attends Skyway Church in Goodyear. All men residing in PebbleCreek are invited to hear James speak. The meeting will be at 7:30 a.m. in the Tuscany Falls Chianti Room. Coffee and pastries will be available starting at 7:00 a.m. in the Tuscany Falls Coffee Bar adjacent to the Chianti Room.
On April 11 the Fellowship did an outreach project serving noon meals to the needy at the Phoenix Rescue Mission. Approximately 180 meals were served to homeless men and unemployed individuals in work/training programs. The Phoenix Rescue Mission is a Christ-based nonprofit organization that provides meals three times per day, 365 days per year, to those in need. The Mission also operates a 148 bed emergency shelter. In addition, the Mission offers various faith-based programs including a recovery program lasting 12 to 18 months for men and a similar transformational program for mothers with children. Each year the Fellowship finds this outreach effort a very touching endeavor. Fellowship attendees included: Neil Smith, Bob Holtsberry, Terry Ernst, Howard Atkinson, Tom Tamura, Ted Moran, JD Brown, Ron Glynn, Mike Davis, Lee Price, Al Crosson, Charles McGill and Jeffrey Fischer.
