Mitch Hagstrom is the coordinator of the Spades Club here in PebbleCreek. Spades is a trick-taking partnership card game. It was devised in the United States in the 1930s, but the modern game of spades became popular in the late 1940s, especially on college campuses.
Mitch was born and raised in Portland, Ore., where he graduated from Southern Oregon University and built a successful banking career. He retired at age 60, and he and his wife, Rachelle, became snowbirds for a few years. In 2021, they moved here permanently.
While growing up as a child, Mitch played a variety of card games, spades being one of his favorites. Although there was an active Spades Club in PebbleCreek, it stopped when COVID-19 hit. When the initial founder left, Mitch decided to take it over.
Retiring at a young age allowed Mitch to find relevancy in a professional capacity. In doing so, he created a club that feels more like family, a place where everyone feels welcome. The club meets Wednesday nights at 6:15 p.m. in the Sienna Room at Tuscany Falls. People of all skill levels are welcome!
