Greg Fausto, PebbleCreek’s new Director of Facilities, brings an impressive array of talent to the job, including a specialty I had not heard of before – Life Safety. When you’re living in an active adult community it seems a good idea to have someone who specializes in life safety, so I looked it up on Google and learned The Life Safety Code was originated in 1913 by the Committee on Safety to Life (part of the National Fire Protection Association) “which devoted its attention to a study of notable fires involving loss of life and to analyzing the causes of that loss of life.” Today Life Safety deals “with all hazards to human life in buildings, public and private conveyances and other human occupancies.”
The Life Safety Code is coordinated with hundreds of other building codes and standards such as National Electrical Code NFPA 70, fuel-gas, mechanical, plumbing (for sprinklers and standpipes), energy and fire codes. So that’s a lot of responsibility right there. But there are also probably a million or so more possible hazards to human life so I know we’re all thrilled to have Greg on our team, just in case—. By the way, Greg is also on a first name basis with the Goodyear Fire Marshal.
Prior to joining PebbleCreek, Greg spent eight years as manager of plant operations at Cancer Treatment Center of America in charge of the operations not only for the 267,000 square foot hospital, but the Center’s 145,000 square foot business center as well. “I’m told that currently all the buildings at PebbleCreek equal some 260,000 square feet so I thought maybe I’d be getting a lighter work load,” Greg joked. “But then they told me about the 18 miles of common walls, the two pools with 495,900 gallons of water, the 62 miles of roads, the 1080 street lights, the dog park and so on and I knew it was not going to be an easy job. Good thing I like a challenge and hard work!” As part of his job at Cancer Treatment Center, Greg worked closely with Frank Caputo (who is now PebbleCreek’s Executive Chef), planning and coordinating the maintenance and repair of the myriad equipment needed to run food services. “It’ll be great getting to work with Frank again,” Greg noted. “It makes it easier when you know the players and how they like things done.”
Greg’s first order of business is to improve our work order process and, in addition to restructuring his team (one for Eagle’s Nest and one for Tuscany Falls), is making improvements to customer communication. In the short time that Greg has been here, the department has completed over 300 work orders which include fence painting, cool deck repairs and acid washing at Tuscany Falls, window cleaning, patio cleaning, street pole installation, walk-in cooler repair, pool pump repair and tennis court fence replacement at Eagle’s Nest. Greg is currently scheduling preventative maintenance on all equipment for the first quarter of 2017 and safety inspections of all buildings. “Greg has really been getting his feet wet,” observed Bill Barnard, PebbleCreek General Manager. “He has been working with all departments to take care of their upcoming needs and has been a very welcome addition to the staff.”
When he’s not working on keeping PebbleCreek in shape, Greg can be found at the Life Time Fitness Center where he is a certified fitness instructor specializing in weight training and total conditioning. He is also the father of two girls, Kayla (13) and Alissa (7) who are both “big time” dancers so there is a lot of driving to rehearsals, competitions and shows. Kayla was recently a mermaid in The Little Mermaid at the Herberger Theater and has landed a role in the theater’s upcoming production of Aladdin. It seems the apples do not fall far from the tree — in his youth Greg was also involved with dance as a hip-hop performer!
