The four January Monday Morning Lectures will be both entertaining and educational. Tickets to lectures are $5 and are sold at the door of the Renaissance Theater. All lectures begin at 10:00 a.m. excepy January 21, which will begin at 9:30 a.m.
January 7: Marshall Shore will take us on a journey where you can “Get Your Kicks on Route 66.” He will share the history of Route 66 in Arizona, including the impact it had on the state during its prime and what happened when the interstate ultimately bypassed some of the towns that drew life from the road.
Shore, known as the “Hip Historian,” specializes in finding and sharing the most interesting bits and curiosities from the state’s past. He will bring the Grand Canyon State’s history to life with his entertaining and educational presentation.
January 14: During What’s New at Luke? a member of the Luke Air Force Base public affairs staff will talk about the impact Luke has on the greater West Valley community.
Do you know how the F-35 program differs from the F-16 program, what’s in store for the base as the F-16 program is phased out and who are the people who live and work at the base? Come and learn these and many other things that are going on at Luke.
January 21: 9:30 a.m. The Beatles: Liverpool to Abbey Road will enhance your knowledge of this fabulous group. Vincent Bruno, a Beatles scholar and sixties rock historian, will walk us through the Beatles musical journey.
On February 9, 1964 Ed Sullivan introduced this new British group, whose music immediately swept the nation. Who would ever have imagined that the impact of this group would be with us 55 years later? We will listen to some of the music and come to understand the history of those glory days. Bruno will present an entertaining, interactive and informative lecture.
January 28: Mark Steinmetz, the owner of Nature’s AZ Medicines, will enlighten us about Medical Marijuana and You. Marijuana for medical issues has been available in Arizona since 2010 via many dispensaries who often produce their own crop with the assistance of seed to sale software and other specialized equipment.
