Julie Gunnigle, Esq., will speak at the October 5 Democratic Club meeting.

Attendees of the September PebbleCreek Democratic Club meeting were greeted with all the trappings of an old-time political rally: red, white, and blue bunting; balloons and table decorations; and Democratic presidential campaign music ranging from 1800 to 2020. Candidate signs galore and campaign materials were available for the crowd of club and community members who so filled Tuscany Ballroom, that extra chairs were brought in to accommodate everyone. Arizona Secretary of State candidate Adrian Fontes’ speech brought the cheering crowd to its feet several times, with a culminating standing ovation.

Julie Gunnigle, Democratic candidate for Maricopa County Attorney, will be the main speaker for the club’s Oct. 5 meeting. Social hour begins in the Tuscany Ballroom at 6 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7 p.m.

Born and raised in Maricopa County, Julie currently lives a mile from the school that she attended growing up. Her mother was a teacher and instilled in her a passion for serving the community. As the mother of three children, one with special needs, Julie has spent her life fighting to deliver justice and results for those who deserve to be heard.

She went to college at Northern Arizona University and graduated from the University of Notre Dame Law School, cum laude. After law school, Julie went on to serve as Assistant State’s Attorney in Cook County, Ill., where she prosecuted financial crime and public corruption—delivering justice for taxpayers by winning cases against corrupt politicians.

Julie is running for Maricopa County Attorney to protect the rights of everyone in our community. As a former professor of law in Phoenix, a solo practitioner, and former prosecutor, Julie understands how complex our criminal justice system is and how important it is to have someone with a diverse set of experiences to tackle the issues within the County Attorney’s office and in Maricopa County.

She continues to work tirelessly to bring justice to the most vulnerable in our community, including child victims of sexual abuse, elderly people mistreated in assisted living, wrongly evicted families, and women escaping domestic violence. She has worked to ensure that as many Arizonans as possible have their records expunged after the legalization of recreational cannabis in Arizona. Julie also served as director for the Poor People’s Campaign seeking justice for the needy. She is committed to protecting everyone’s voting rights, to evidence-based sentencing reforms, to creating a veterans’ treatment court, and to protecting women’s reproductive health.
