March of 2023 was the month we lost one of the wittiest, charming, mah jongg players we’ve had the pleasure of playing with in PebbleCreek. Caela Casarino played with the Thursday night mah jongg group and attended tournaments with several of her friends in the Thursday night group. She also played with a few other groups when she had the time.

Caela was a beloved daughter and sister. She was very close to her family and spent a lot of her time driving back and forth to California to see them. Her life was an expression of fun, love, and laughter. Caela was about getting the most out of life. Her best friend, Jade, would attest to that.

During her time playing mah jongg in 2022, Caela won first place in the annual PebbleCreek Mah Jongg Tournament and in 2023, she came in third. Caela was an excellent player and taught a few here in PebbleCreek.

The Thursday night mah jongg group recently gathered her mah jongg friends from PebbleCreek and several friends from her Cave Creek tournaments to celebrate Caela.

We collected money for the care and support of her beloved cat, Wally. Last year Wally was ill, and Caela was beside herself. She loved her cat and didn’t know what she would do if Wally left her. We collected $176 for Wally and we also donated $100 to the American Heart Association in her name. Caela’s neighbor, Ann Green, was gracious to give Wally a good home.

We will miss our friend, her laugh, her enthusiasm, and her love of life. Caela will always be with her mah jongg friends, and her stories will live to be repeated another day.
