PC Reads Book Club starts strong; late afternoon a new time for LLL
Based on early registration, LifeLong Learning’s first summer program is being enthusiastically embraced by PebbleCreek residents. PC Reads, a monthly book club without a set membership, meets from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. the first Thursday of every month at the LLL Center.
PC Reads is designed to meet several needs. Residents have been asking LifeLong Learning to schedule programs in the summer when there are fewer activities for those who remain. Some readers don’t want to be obligated to a regular book group, either because of their reading tastes or their travel schedules. Others have never belonged to a book group and found PC Reads an opportune way to try one.
The first meeting is Thursday, June 1, at which Outliers: The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell will be discussed. The book looks at the extremely successful – the “outliers” in any given field — and investigates what factors contributed to their success. While there is no fee, registration is required so that the group can be limited in size to facilitate discussion. To register, go to www.lifelonglearningatpc.org and look at the events on the June calendar to register.
On Thursday, July 6 the book will be Foreign Affairs by Alison Lurie, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1985. Registration will be open June 1 for this book discussion.
PC Reads is also beginning a monthly enewsletter that will include information about books, events at the local libraries and news about what various book groups in PebbleCreek are reading. To subscribe, send an email to Connie Armstrong at [email protected]. If you are already a member of a book club in PebbleCreek, please make sure Susie Nee has the contact information for your leader by emailing her at [email protected].
