On December 9, members and guests of Le cercle français met at the home of Deborah and Gaylen Legan to celebrate the holiday season. A six foot twinkling Eiffel Tower greeted them outside and French Christmas music played inside as they arrived. Everyone brought a wrapped gift and placed it under the Eiffel tower ornamented Christmas tree and proceeded to the kitchen to place their potluck item on the table. After the cocktail hour everyone filled their plates with all the delicious foods which included Coq au Vin, smoked salmon, paté, croissant sandwiches, chicken tenders, sweet yams and various hors d’oeuvres and salads. Miam, miam!
Before the dessert was served a champagne toast was made to the members and to a happy and healthy New Year. Then Janine Drabier led the group in singing several Christmas carols in French.
Everyone was in for a treat for dessert as our own Chef Bérnard Chirent supplied and served a traditional Bûche de Noël from La Boulange. There was also a selection of homemade pies. Coffee, brandies and cordials were served after dessert.
Then the time came to open the Christmas gifts. Everyone took a turn selecting a gift from under the tree and showing what they had received. A final surprise gift of a container of homemade strawberry jam was given to everyone.
As the party ended and guests began to leave, kisses on both cheeks were given and many enthusiastic calls of Joyeux Noël filled the evening air.
