The PebbleCreek Men’s Golf Association (PCMGA) has named Kyler Kenney its Most Improved Player of 2025. The PCMGA uses the USGA method to determine who the Most Improved Player is. The formula used is a ratio that encompasses the handicap index at the beginning of the year and at the end of the year. The higher the ratio, the better the improvement.

As background, Kyler was born and raised in Portland, Ore. He graduated from Portland State University with a Business degree in Economics and Accounting. He spent his career as an accountant mostly working for nonprofit clubs and religious organizations.

He’s been playing golf for over 50 years, mostly with a single digit handicap. In his golf career, he’s had five holes-in-one making his first one on his 21st birthday! He’s been playing in the Wild Bunch golf group here in PebbleCreek for 25 years. Some refer to the group as “The Mild Bunch!

Aside from golf, Kyler enjoys flying radio-controlled airplanes. He’s been doing that for six years and admitted this hobby has a “learning curve” for sure. He had some early mishaps but he now considers himself an “advanced-intermediate” flyer.

Like many PCMGA members, Kyler had some medical issues. In the fall of 2023 he was diagnosed with cancer. As a result, he missed playing golf in all of 2024. With the help of good doctors and medications, Kyler is now cancer free!

In 2025, he was able to get his strength back and play golf again. He improved his handicap from an index of 13.8 to 10.9. The USGA formula also takes into account that it is more difficult to improve from an index of 10.0 to a 5.0 than it is to improve from a 25.0 to a 20.0. The PCMGA player with the highest ratio is the winner.

A card credit for $25 will be awarded to Kyler for his achievement.

Congratulations to Kyler for not only improving his handicap, but more importantly beating cancer!
