Surrounded by more than 100 well-wishers, Kenny Kurtz celebrated his 80th birthday at a dinner/dance in the Chianti Room. Cheryl Cooke, Kenny’s daughter, arranged a surprise party and invited his family, neighbors, friends, members of his church, and PebbleCreek softball players. The crowd swarmed around Kenny when he entered the room and showered him with hugs, kisses, and handshakes.
Kenny was born in Manhattan and lived in Maspeth, Queens. He was employed as an electrician at Honeywell for over 30 years. When he retired, the decision to move to PebbleCreek in 2004 was easy—the selling point was the PebbleCreek Senior Softball League. Kenny wanted to play softball and live an active lifestyle. He also became a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and continued his membership in the Knights of Columbus, attaining the highest level of 4th Degree. The Knights of Columbus is a fraternal service order of practicing Catholic men who are dedicated to family, community, youth, and the church. Kenny is also a member of the Irish American Club and the Italian American Club, and is an avid ballroom dancer.
We wish Kenny many more years of happiness and good health. And, we will see ‘ya playing softball at the Robson Field of Dreams and on the dance floor!
