Ken Schumacher made a hole-in-one on Dec. 5, during the 2019 PebbleCreek Men’s Golf Association (PCMGA) 4-man scramble tournament. He made it on the par-3 twelfth hole at the Tuscany Falls West Course.
In this shotgun-start tourney, Ken and teammates Jim Sheard, Ed Bobigian, and Gary Ebel, the twelfth hole was their very first hole of the day. The hole was playing 147 yards from the white tee to a front pin placement. Par threes are not usually a great place to start your round as players are not yet warmed up. Not so for Ken and his team.
Jim had hit first and his shot came to within three feet of the hole—a great shot for sure. He then said to his team, “I gave you a target, now go get it.” Ken played next and hit a 7-iron with a nice trajectory right at the flag. His ball landed about six feet short of the hole, bounced, then rolled in for the ever-coveted hole-in-one. They all saw it go in. Jim’s shot was great. Ken’s was perfect. What a way to start a three-day tourney!
Ken has played golf for nearly 40 years, and this was his second career hole-in-one. His first one came in November of 2016 at the 12th hole at Eagle’s Nest. For this latest ace, not only was the twelfth hole a coincidence, but Jim Sheard had witnessed that first hole-in-one as well. It wouldn’t be surprising if going forward Ken only wants to play par threes when Jim is watching!
Ken is originally from North Dakota and attended North Dakota State College of Science. He spent his sales career in the medical equipment and supply business. Ken and his wife, Carole, moved to PebbleCreek from Colorado in January of 2016.
Ken’s ace helped his team take a 4-shot lead in the fifth flight of the first round of this PCMGA tourney. It also earned him a share of the annual hole-in-one prize fund. As of this writing, Gus Gladding, Vic VanHorn, and Ron Morrow are the other players who will share in that prize.
Congratulations,, Ken!
