The PebbleCreek Art Club is delighted to announce that Kathy Sork is the 2022 Artist of the Year recipient.

Kathy has a long history of involvement in the arts from a young age. Her mother would say she always had pencil and paper in hand. But it wasn’t until after her marriage to Greg, raising two kids, and working in the mortgage industry that she returned to her art. Kathy got serious about her art as an outlet to a life-changing tragedy—the loss of her 16-year-old daughter to cancer. That event continues to be a source of inspiration for her.

She credits the many college art classes and workshops with well-known artists in Washington, Oregon, and PebbleCreek, who really raised her art to a new level. She has worked in a variety of mediums including watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, and collage. No matter the medium, her work is defined by vibrant colors and interesting shapes and lines.

Kathy describes herself as an intuitive artist, and as she works with shapes and bright colors, an idea emerges. She is a prolific and disciplined artist working daily in her studio with Punky, her 8-year-old rescue dog by her side.

Some of the members of the nominating committee used these words to describe her: “She has a distinctive style, and her paintings are bold, colorful, vivid, and masterfully painted.” “She is a faithful, reliable volunteer, especially for our art shows.” “She puts in many hours and is a delight to work with.”

Kathy has belonged to numerous art organizations and has won awards both in the Northwest and PebbleCreek. Kathy and her husband of more than 40 years moved to PebbleCreek in 2013.

Kathy’s beautiful work will be on display in the Creative Arts Center during the month of February. Be sure to visit the exhibit and be awed by her talent and creativity. She is truly one-of-a-kind!
