Margery Ellison, Vice President
The Pet Companions Club of PebbleCreek is pleased to have as guest speaker at its general meeting on Wednesday, November 7, Kathleen Molony, President of Mutts on a Mission (formerly known as Therapy Paws). We will meet at 3:00 p.m. in Room 100 of the Eagle’s Nest Activities Center. All PebbleCreek residents, whether club members or not, are invited to attend this free presentation.
Mutts on a Mission is a local one hundred percent volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit therapy dog organization started right here in PebbleCreek that has grown from five teams in 2008 to more than 30 teams today. These teams volunteer their time and energy all over the West Valley at hospitals, schools, nursing homes and libraries to support and comfort those who need it.
Kathleen, a Boston transplant, moved here in 2005 and became a Goodyear community activist with the Goodyear Police Academy, Goodyear Citizens Academy and the Goodyear 2025 Planning Committee. She currently sits on the Goodyear Planning and Zoning Committee. In PebbleCreek, Kathleen was greatly involved in getting our own Dog Park in place.
Kathleen will be giving a presentation about the volunteer work being done by Mutts on a Mission and will show a short documentary on their latest passion, literacy. The organization has adopted a new program called R.E.A.D. (Reading Education Assistance Dogs) which has been implemented in three local elementary schools. Sixty-eight percent of third graders in the United States are reading below score levels, so Mutts on a Mission had to get involved. The program works because animals serve as a primary motivator and removing stress and expectations allow those needing additional help with reading to succeed.
Come and listen to this amazing program and how you might get involved. If you have a dog that needs a job, you just might find it by listening to Kathleen’s presentation. She will also answer your questions.
