Kare Bears’ Korner: Coordinator Receives Twenty Year Award

Sandy Smith and Rayma Scalzo

Maureen Plate

Kare Bears presented Sandy Smith with a pin recognizing her 20 years of volunteer service as a Kare Bears coordinator for Unit 12. Rayma Scalzo made the presentation. Rayma is the founder of Kare Bears, and she also awarded pins to 12 other volunteers for 10 years of service in many different positions.

In a community where many of us have our friends and relatives elsewhere, we may find ourselves in occasional need of some type of assistance. It is comforting to know there are people who care.

Would you like to become a Kare Bears coordinator and be of service to your neighbor? This volunteer role does not take any special skills, just genuine care for your neighbors, and training is provided.

The major responsibilities are to send our monthly Kare Bears newsletters via email, visit newcomers with a Welcome Packet that we supply, visit those who are ill or had surgery and bring them a Get Well Packet, and notify the Kare Bears office of a death in your unit so a sympathy food platter can be provided.

Visiting your neighbors as a Kare Bears coordinator will give you the opportunity to get acquainted and develop a relationship with them. If you have benefitted from our Kare Bears services, becoming a Kare Bears coordinator is a way of giving back. Contact Don Belonax, 1st VP Kare Bears, at 925-708-0840 or [email protected] to get more information about this wonderful opportunity.

Coordinators are needed in Units 1, 1A, 2, 6, 15, 18, 19, 31, 32, 36, 39, 42B, 49A, 51, 55A, and 62A. You do not need to live in the units listed.
