Kare Bears’ Korner

Kare Bear Coordinator Pizza Party

Rochelle Zuckerbrow

A Kare Bears coordinator is the primary Kare Bears unit contact person in their unit, although a large unit may have multiple coordinators. Their job is to facilitate residents’ access to Kare Bears services, as well as to reach out to residents who may be in need of those services.

Kare Bears wanted to show appreciation to the coordinators with a pizza party at the Oasis Pool. We enjoyed the beautiful ramada with a pizza lunch followed by cookies!

In attendance were Rochelle Zuckerbrow, Sandra Smith, Sandy Subocinski, Mai Nacht, Janis Korba, Elayne Zdunczyk, Janette Ratliff, Gerry Williams, Jack Williams, Tom Meek, Jean Merkel, Maureen Plate, Diana Pratuch, Jan Koberg, Betty Garner, Linda Reinke, Clarissa Harper, Donna Frole, Pat Jensen, June Proznik, Heather Adamscheck, Kathy Bates, Cheryl Brodbeck, Kitty Kowalczyk, Judy Meservey, CeCe Comstock, and Sue Kvasager.

If you’re interested in becoming a Kare Bears coordinator, please contact the 1st Vice President at [email protected].

The following units are in need of a Kare Bears coordinator: 1, 1A, 6, 8, 14, 15, 23, 36, 37, 39, 58, 59, 61.

Help Can Come Your Way—View the Directory of Services Today!

The Kare Bears are pleased to announce that they have a newly revised Directory of Services that can be viewed or downloaded at www.karebears.org. All you have to do is click on “Resources” (at the top of the home page) and then on the “Directory of Services.” There are two parts to the directory. For an easy search, go through index pages and click on the resource you need and you will be taken directly to that resource.

Please note: Kare Bears does not endorse these entries, but merely offers the information for your review. Also keep in mind that the directory is not the same publication as the Source Book that you received earlier this year.

It is important to understand that you don’t have to be a caregiver or be sick to benefit from the resource list. On the io group, there are requests daily for resources and, in most cases, the resource is in the directory. For example, if you want to know the pick-up date for bulk trash, it is there. If you want to rent baby furniture, get someone to watch your house, or pet sit, information is there. If you need a handyman or a place that delivers food or groceries, it is there. If you need transportation to the airport, guess what … it is there too. There are government agencies, elder attorneys, estate and financial planners, and the list goes on and on. Sound helpful?

Perhaps, the most important reason to view the directory is to get help when you or a loved one is ill. One of the main sections deals with products, programs, and organizations for support of various diseases. Another section lists where to get medical and non-medical assistance. And, of course, there is a section that deals with senior housing, rehab, and respite care.

If you don’t use the web, you can view the directory at the Kare Bears house. Oh, and don’t forget to visit the Kare Bears library. It has all kinds of books, pamphlets, and information.

We hope you will take a moment to view the directory today so help can come your way if you need it. If you have last year’s version, please discard it as many of the resources have been amended and some are no longer in business. There are new resources that have been added too.
