Rayma Scalzo
The Kare Bears Raffle committee volunteers have been working very hard and preparing for the annual Volunteers Awards Luncheon on November 14, 2018. The Raffle/Silent Auction are extraordinary this year as we included exciting and valuable donations from some new donors!
Such donations include two beautiful lamps, an area rug, cash cards to be used anywhere, dazzling jewelry, artwork by residents, a photo session, a pianist playing for your party, golf galore, restaurant gift cards, tickets for professional sporting events, two-night stay at Los Abrigados Resort in Sedona, pickleball racquet and accessories and the list goes on!
You do not want to miss your chance in winning one of these amazing items. Although the ballroom doors do not open until 11:00 a.m., you will want to arrive at 10:30 a.m. in order to have time to purchase raffle tickets, select the raffle items you want to win and bid on your favorite auction items. You will also have an opportunity to participate in a 50/50 drawing which we have added this year.
Come and enjoy this special luncheon! Mark your calendars now for November 14, 2018.

Kare Bears Golden Harvest Awards Luncheon will be held on Wednesday, November 14 in the Tuscany Falls Ballroom.
This year the tickets are expected to sell out quickly, so mark your calendar to be at the Eagle’s Nest Kiosk on Monday, October 8 at 10:00 a.m. till noon. This will be your first and possibly your only opportunity to get your tickets.
Tickets are $30 each. New this year is that we are including a raffle ticket, so you have an extra chance at winning one of the wonderful raffle prizes that have been assembled.
Single tickets as well as whole tables will be available. If purchasing more than a ticket for yourself, please have the names and meal choices of all others when you come to the kiosk.
Also new this year we are setting aside two tables near the middle door of the ballroom for those that cannot walk far or navigate the crowded ballroom. These tables are for those needing assistance and their guests. Wheelchairs, walkers and scooters are welcome at these tables!
Another new feature this year is our first 50/50 raffle. You could go home with a pile of cash!
When you come to purchase your tickets, please be prepared to choose your meal. Choices are chicken picatta, beef bourguignon or spinach artichoke crepes.
A second opportunity to purchase any remaining tickets will be on October 11 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Eagle’s Nest Kiosk.
If there are any remaining tickets, which will most likely be at the back of the room, they will be available at the Kiosk on October 16 at 10:00 a.m. till noon.
The Luncheon Committee has been hard at work to make sure this is the best event ever. Don’t miss your chance to get a good seat. See you at the Golden Harvest!

Flu and Pneumonia shot clinics
Hilary Coltman
As part of our Kare Bears Wellness Program, we have four dates we are offering flu and pneumonia shots clinics. These shots will be administered by Walgreens.
If you wish to have a shingles shot or any other vaccinations, Walgreens will not administer these at the clinic in PebbleCreek. However, they will have information available. You will be able to make appointments on your own or go to Walgreens at your convenience to get these other vaccinations.
Walk-ins are welcome!
They will be giving the standard flu shots along with the High Dose 65 plus flu shot, pneumonia and pneumonia booster shots at the Tuscany Falls Ballroom No. 1 on the following dates and times: Friday, October 14, 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.; Thursday, October 18, 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.; Friday, October 19, 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. and Wednesday, October 24, 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
In general, most insurance covers the cost of the flu shots at 100 percent (Medicare does cover flu shots). However, if the shots are not covered by your insurance, the cash price for the Standard Flu Shot is approximately $40. The cost for the High Dose 65 plus shot is approximately $69.99. The cash price for the pneumonia shot is approximately $252, and for the pneumonia booster shot the price is $460. Please check with your insurance carrier prior to signing up for your copay price.
Flu vaccines are administered yearly. Pneumonia vaccines are administered every five years and the pneumonia booster shot is administered once in a lifetime. If you have had a pneumonia vaccine in the last five years, you can get a booster.
Walgreens would like payment by cash or check only. If you pay by cash, please have exact change. Most insurance plans are accepted.
A sign-up sheet is in the Kare Bears folder at the Community Information mailbox across from The Eagle’s Nest Pro Shop on August 25. Residents can choose the time they prefer to sign up.
