Kare Bears annual meeting to be held June 15

The annual meeting of Kare-ing Neighbors, Inc., d.b.a. Kare Bears will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom.
Written yearly reports of the Board of Directors will be available. The election of directors will follow for open positions.
All residents of PebbleCreek are cordially invited to attend. This meeting will provide information about the organization and what this group of committed volunteers makes available for our community each year.

If you like to drive or help run an active office, then Kare Bears wants you on our team!
We are looking for volunteer drivers for our Kare Bears Transportation program and volunteer office help in our Kare Bears House.
A volunteer driver’s responsibility is to drive PebbleCreek residents to medical or therapy appointments. Our drivers use their own vehicles. Kare Bears reimburses drivers their gasoline costs on a per mile basis. The estimated time commitment is two to four hours a month (or more if you wish).
The office volunteer staff runs the Kare Bears House. They answer phone calls, greet visitors, loan medical equipment, schedule trips and drivers and other various services. The estimated time commitment is a three hour shift per month (or more if you wish). Training is provided for all office staff.

Abrazo West Hospital tours

Kare Bears has scheduled a tour of Abrazo West Hospital, formerly West Valley Hospital, on Thursday, June 16. We are offering a tour and lunch to the first 16 people to sign up.
Please call the Kare Bear House at 623-536-1200 to make a reservation. Your name must be on the list to attend the tour.
If June is full, you may sign up for the next scheduled tour on Thursday, July 21.
We know you’ll enjoy this tour and appreciate all the must-need information. The hospital has undergone tremendous new construction which we feel everyone will be pleased to see.
This is the nearest hospital to PebbleCreek offering a Level 1 Trauma Center, accredited chest pain center, cardiac arrest center, joint commission certified, primary stroke center and board certified physicians.
Abrazo West Hospital has the Robotic Surgical Services using the de Vinci Surgical Platform, Outpatient wound care and Hyperbaric Medicine. They do offer free wellness events on Living With Knee or Hip Pain.
Abrazo West Hospital is located at 13677 W. McDowell Road. We will meet at the hospital’s main entrance for the tour just before 10:00 a.m.!
A step in the right direction: common foot issues in active adults
Kare Bears would like to invite you to hear Dr. Gary N. Friedlander, DPM, FACFAS with Sole Foot and Ankle at the Kare Bears monthly presentation on Wednesday, June 15 at 11:00 a.m. at the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom.
We all know that when our feet hurt it can be debilitating. We live in an active resort community with lots of golf, tennis and so many other exercise and fitness opportunities that require us to be on our feet.
There are many causes and conditions of foot pain and many of them are treatable.
Dr. Friedlander’s presentation: A Step In The Right Direction – Common Foot Issues in Adults 50 and Older will address a few of them. Skin and nail conditions that can affect your feet like Athlete’s Foot and toenail fungus, structural issues that can occur with your feet like heel pain (plantar fasciitis) and bunions, Diabetes and why checking your feet is important and things to watch and finally, the importance of wearing comfortable shoes.
Dr. Gary Friedlander is Board Certified in Foot and Ankle Surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgeons, Fellow with the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and Fellow with the American Professional Wound Care Association. He offers very similar services to the Heartland Podiatry centre (https://www.heartlandpodiatry.com/our-physicians) and carries out great work.
He has been practicing podiatry in a private setting since 1982 when he first established his practice in Sun City, Arizona. Dr. Friedlander’s practice emphasizes a diversity of areas including vascular foot and ankle, geriatric, diabetic and wound care issues. He is well respected and has been highlighted among the Top Docs in Phoenix Magazine.
A native of the Los Angeles area, he received his undergraduate degree in microbiology from San Diego State University in California. He is an honored doctoral graduate of the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine and has served secondary positions within the podiatric community including Residency Director of Podiatry at Community Hospital Medical Center as well as Associate Professor and Clinic Coordinator at the Arizona Podiatric Medicine Program and at Midwestern University College of Health Sciences in Glendale, Arizona. In his spare time Dr. Friedlander continues to teach at Midwestern University.
Dr. Friedlander has used his extensive experience of practice within the geriatric community to lecture and author several papers such as Metatarsalgia in the Aging Foot.
This free event is open to all PebbleCreek residents.
