The cold February weather did not stop the PebbleCreek Men’s 9-Hole Golf Association (PCM9GA) from keeping a full schedule of golf. The PCM9GA held its annual Member-Member tournament, a two-day competition with a four-man team scramble on day one and a two-man low net format on day two. The tournament hosted 144 golfers with two red tee flights and two white tee flights. The two day event concluded with drinks, snacks, and camaraderie in the Chianti Room.
February was not only golf for the PCM9GA. The Niners also donated $400 to the Valley View Community Food Bank.
The month of March did not disappoint and came in like a lion. Unfortunately for the Niners the normally two-day format for the Club Championship was weather-shortened to a single day of play. The field consisted of two white tee flights and two red tee flights with individual stroke play scoring.
The red tee gross winner was Charlie Lowe, and the red tee net top honors were split between Gerald Fegler and Bob Spano.
The white tee gross winner was John Heinz, while Joe Nasal took the white tee low-net honors. The gross-score winner required a playoff between John Heinz and Joe Oliver starting on hole number 1 of Tuscany Falls East. John Heinz ultimately prevailed.
Following the tournament the Niners met in the Chianti Room for beverages, bratwurst, and brotherhood, and to congratulate the winners.
In late March the club held a Team Shamble-Arizona Shuffle event, fielding 30 four-man teams in two 15-team flights at Eagle’s Nest. The event format was team scoring counting one low net score for par 3s, two low net scores for par 4s, and three low net scores for par 5s.
The Front Nine Flight team of Trevor Ballinger, Bill Schroeder, Mark Walmsley, and Erv Stein snagged top honors. The Back Nine Flight win belonged to the Tom Clark, Rene Lefebvre, Brian Rothwell, and David Kennedy foursome.
Closest-to-the-pin honors for par 3s went to Doug Wainwright for holes number 4 and 8, David Kennedy landed one near hole number 12, and Bill Hill got it close to hole number 17.
The PCM9GA is preparing a schedule for the summer season that will include up to four special events in addition to regular play. Stay tuned for details.
