The PebbleCreek Men’s Golf Association (PCMGA) Club Championship was won by Jeff Benton. He shot a gross score of 210 (6 under par) in this three-day event. This PCMGA major tournament was held on Feb. 19, 21, and 26.
A total of 152 players competed in 15 separate flights. Each flight played all three courses. The Championship Flight played from the Black tees. Fourteen players competed in that flight.
In the first round at Tuscany Falls East, Jeff started the championship slowly shooting a 73 making only one birdie. He was two shots behind leaders Randy Lundquist and Larry Vallar and tied for third place with Ron Ramsbacher.
In the second round at Eagle’s Nest, Jeff got hot making five birdies and one bogey for a score of 4 under par 68. So, at the end of the second round, instead of trailing by two shots, Jeff was now leading by two shots over Randy.
In the third and final round on the West, Jeff got hot again making birdies on five holes (holes 8, 10, 11, 14, and 15). Making two bogies, he shot a score of 3 under par 69. His 3-day score of 210 bested the field by 10 shots!
As Jeff and his wife of 41 years, Shelley, only moved to PebbleCreek last July, we provide some background. He was born and raised in Arkansas. He graduated with a business degree from the University of Central Arkansas where he played baseball. He spent his career in retail management at various retailers including Target, Walmart, Toys R Us and Barnes & Noble.
What a golf career! He’s made 17 holes-in-one (including 10 at The Wigwam) and has been the Arizona Golf Association Senior Player of the Year four times (2017, 2018, 2019, and 2023.)
