The PebbleCreek Woodcarving Club has recognized Gordon Andersen as the Carver of the Month for January 2024. Gordon has been a member of the club since September of 2000 and, at almost 90 years young, is still going strong! He was named Novice Carver of the Year in 2002. Gordon has been very active in the club by teaching numerous classes and has been a significant contributor to the growth in the club’s abilities. He is very helpful when it comes to ways to improve carving procedures. Currently, Gordon is spending most of his time perfecting his chip carving, which is a type of carving characterized by cutting out various sizes and shapes of wood chips with a knife to decorate or create an item.
Gordon’s other interests are … “girls, single or acting single.” Seriously, he used to enjoy a fun game of golf with his buddies, often playing pranks on each other.
He often gives his carvings to his family members, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and even to his neighbor’s grandchildren.
Gordon kept the club running during the COVID-19 shutdown. A couple of us spent time in his garage with him to keep up our skills, enjoy the company, lunch, and even some of his baking.
