Jane Peacock was the PebbleCreek Woodcarvers Club woodcarver of the month for November. She moved from Massachusetts to PebbleCreek four and a half years ago and has been an active member of the carving club for the last two and a half years. Jane started carving when she joined the club and has been very active. Last carving season, Jane started teaching carving with a class on creating a flower mount for a carved hummingbird. A blue flower in the middle of her shelf is her version of the mount with a hummingbird she carved.
Jane prefers carving with rotary tools and enjoys carving kachinas, Northwest Indian carvings, and carving with soapstone. She has found the carving club members to be very inclusive and willing to teach others how to develop their skills and talent.
Prospective club members may sign up for the beginner’s class by Oct. 1 or Jan. 1, of each year. The one-day class focuses on tool safety and how to carve a simple project. The class is held around the middle of October or January, respectively. The cost is $25. Class attendees then will have the option to join the club if there is continued interest. However, club membership is open only to PebbleCreek residents.
Contact Tom Wick if interested in attending a beginner’s class at 262-408-7355 or [email protected]. Regular carving classes are held from October through April. Club meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month from October through April. The carving room is available for club members daily throughout the year, except for Thursday mornings when another club uses the room.
