Italian American Club Restarts Meetings and Offers Classes

Marilu Trainor

The PebbleCreek Italian American Club (PCIAC) will welcome back members to their meeting on Sept. 8. Meetings are held at the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom on the second Wednesday evening of each month at 7 p.m. A special tribute has been planned during the first meeting to honor first responders and those who were lost in the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

There are many upcoming events. On Aug. 15, sign up began for a new group called Dinners 4/8. The series of dining at other members’ homes runs October to April. PCIAC members wanting to participate should sign up by Sept. 15 on PCIAC.org.

Club members enjoyed an Aug. 19 luncheon at BJ’s restaurant and were hosted by Maggi and Ron Maas.

CIAO Motto

“Throughout 2021-22, members of the PCIAC will be able to participate in various cultural, heritage, and social events,” said Ken Minichiello, president. “We are emphasizing our event schedule through use of the acronym CIAO. That means expanding our communications, getting more member involvement, offering a variety of activities, and updating our organizational structure.”

Currently, there are more than 255 members in the PCIAC, and the organization is designing events to encourage member participation. Membership in the PCIAC is open to all PebbleCreek residents.

Language Classes

PCIAC is also offering Italian language classes in October. If you want to learn some Italian history and culture and, at the same time, learn the Italian language, then you are invited to sign up to take Dino Cervegni’s free Italian language classes. You do not need to know any Italian when starting at the beginner’s level. For those who have had more exposure or advanced teaching in Italian, an intermediate level is also available. Dino was born and raised in Italy and is a retired professor from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where he taught Italian history and language.

Open to all PebbleCreek residents, both Italian classes will be held every Friday morning in the Milan Room in Tuscany Falls Clubhouse, starting Oct. 1. The beginner’s class starts at 9 a.m., and the intermediate class follows at 10 a.m. To enroll in these classes, starting Sept. 1, club members can sign up on PCIAC.org. Non-club members, please send your name and contact information to [email protected] or call 419-356-4010 if you have questions or would like more details.
