Irish-American Club of PebbleCreek news

Spring is in the air and the Irish-American Club of PebbleCreek is staying active.

The monthly afters social was hosted by Marlene and Roger Hayes on March 10. Also, two of the club’s major events were held last month – the Golf Tournament and the Emerald Ball – and both were huge successes.

Golf Tournament Chair Greg Roth and his committee did a terrific job organizing the annual event for 144 golfers. They were greeted by a bagpiper before the shotgun start, had a beautiful day for a fun round of golf, then enjoyed a lavish lunch where awards were handed out to complete the day. The event raises money for two of our charities: the New Life Center and the Southwest Lending Closet.

The next day was the annual Emerald Ball chaired by Anne Engels. Anne and her team and a bagpiper, of course, welcomed 160 diners to the Tuscany Falls Ballroom for a delicious dinner and an evening of dancing to The Roadrunners. Irish music was provided by Tom Healy during the social hour and by Doug Christensen and Sally Collender later in the evening. It was a fine way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day eve.

April will be busy, too. Susan Kice has organized a pub lunch at the Irish Wolfhound on April 12. The next day both IAC clubs will enjoy a Day at the Races – no, not a Marx Brothers movie – but a fun outing to the horse races hosted by Joe Lupo. Our annual elections will be held at the April 14 meeting at Tuscany Falls Ballroom. President John Pugsley is on the ballot again but some other Board members plan to retire.

The fifth dinner of the season to benefit the Agua Fria Food Bank will be at the home of Greg and Terry Roth, assisted by Carole and Wayne Garrett. Thirty members make a donation and enjoy an evening of friends, food and fun. The club has raised over $1,700 for the Food Bank in this sixth year of these home hosted dinners.

You don’t have to be Irish to be a club member. Meetings are held the second Tuesday of the month, October to May. For more information contact Judy Rizzetto at 536-1960.
