Informative program on Medicare 2016 drug and health plans planned for October 21

Kare Bears would like to invite you to hear Glen Spencer, the Benefits Assistance Program Director for the Area Agency on Aging at the Kare Bears monthly meeting on Wednesday, October 21 at 11:00 a.m. at the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom.

Medicare benefits and relating costs change annually. With the Open Enrollment period about to begin, Glen will be explaining the basics of all Medicare Programs with special emphasis on the Drug Benefit Plan. Medicare Parts A, B, C, D and Medigap Supplements are complex and most Medicare recipients need the assistance of a knowledgeable professional to help navigate the system. Glen will also discuss Medicare services, costs and what’s new in 2016 including non-renewing plans and member options on replacing it with other coverages. Low income programs and changes to Medicare as a result of the Affordable Care Act will also be covered. Additional resources for further assistance will be provided.

Since 2011 Glen Spencer has been Director of the Benefits Assistance Program for the Area Agency on Aging, Region One in Phoenix. In this capacity he currently oversees the State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) for Maricopa County and assists Medicare beneficiaries with enrollments, grievances, appeals and issues involving Medicare fraud, errors and abuse. He serves on the Board of Directors of Banner Health Network, a Pioneer Accountable Care Organization in Arizona. He is a frequent trainer and conference presenter.

Prior to that, he served as a Medical Case Manager with HIV Care Directions, a program for the Area Agency on Aging. He specialized in Social Security disability and Medicare benefits, representing clients filing for benefits.

The Area Agency on Aging, Region One is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Phoenix that serves more than 95,000 seniors and disabled individuals annually in Maricopa County. The Benefits Assistance Program is one of the nationwide State Health Insurance Assistance Programs established by Medicare and Medicaid Services that provide independent, unbiased and free of charge Medicare information and assistance to Medicare beneficiaries.
