As we have for the past several years, members of the Rug Hookers of PebbleCreek car pooled to Tucson for a day long hooking event. Actually, not much hooking gets done as there are many desirable distractions including: meeting up with others from around the state, admiring others’ works of art, purchasing fabric and other hooking necessities, viewing and bidding on silent auction items and eating a nice luncheon served on the patio. For several members of the club this event has become a tradition.
This year’s “hook-a-thon” was especially entertaining as two of the newer members of our group were selected to display the rugs they are currently working on which, although the same basic design, are uniquely interpreted in different shades of wool (see photo). Karen Bogadi and Barb Mauer were introduced as “almost virgin hookers” to the group because, although this was their first Tucson trip, they have been members of our PC Hookers for a little over a year. Both Karen and Barb are accomplished quilters.
Members of the club went home with some new acquisitions and also energizing ideas to incorporate in their next project. New friendships were made and previous friendships renewed, all in the backdrop of a myriad of wool colors and the scenic mountain background of the La Paloma Country Club. It made for another memorable day for those who attended.
Stop in and see what the PC Rug Hookers are working on. We welcome your visit and would be happy to show you how the craft is done. The Rug Hookers meet every Monday afternoon from noon to 4:00 p.m. in the Fiber Arts Room of the Creative Arts Center.
