Third Hole-in-One!

On June 12, 2026, John Howell watched his ball drop into the #8 hole on Eagle’s Nest, becoming his third hole–in-one! The 153 yard shot from the blue tees to a yellow flag with a seven iron was witnessed and celebrated by fellow members of the Rough Riders Golf Group, Rich Holbeck, Tom Ward, and Roger Voise. Toasts followed at the bar with several more members of their golf group. Later were tequila shots with his wife, Dale.

Howell’s second hole–in–one was accomplished three years ago on the same hole, from blue tees to a yellow flag. His first was 11 years ago as a member of the Rogue Valley Country Club while residing in Medford, Ore.

He and his wife, Dale Everson, have been enjoying their retirement at PebbleCreek for eight years.

Don Mayo Makes a Hole-in-One That Does Not Count

On June 4, Don Mayo made a hole-in-one on the 4th hole of Tuscany Falls East course. He did it while playing alone on a very hot afternoon. Don had worked from home that morning and went out to play a practice round. Being summertime with many PebbleCreek residents being off to cooler locales, there was no one around to partner up with. So, he played all alone from the black/blue tees.

The 4th hole was playing 180 yards from the black tees to a back-right pin placement. He hit his 7-iron with a baby fade. As he was unable to see the bottom of the flagstick due to the height of the front bunker, he did not see his ball go in. He drove to the green and did not see his ball on the green. As he walked toward the flagstick, he glanced toward the area over the green and did not see his ball. So he checked the hole and there it was. He looked all around at the homes that line the golf hole looking for a “witness.” To no avail, no such neighbors were out. Remember it was well over 105 degrees on a windless afternoon. No self-respecting Creeker would be sitting on their patio watching for a golfer making a miracle shot!

Not knowing what to do, Don, while on the 5th tee, emailed the author of this article who happened to be in cold Alaska at the time. He wrote, “Howie, it’s Don Mayo. A funny story out on the East course just by myself. I just scored a hole-in-one on the 4th hole. Unfortunately since I’m by myself it’s not official but thought I’d give you a chuckle anyway.”

Per USGA rules, a marker must be present for the whole round to make the ace part of a postable score.

Don has made six holes-in-one in his golf career that were official. Three were made in Westminster, Colo., two in Montana, and one on #5 West in PebbleCreek.

Don was born and raised in Westminster, Colo., and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and earned his master’s in Accounting from Regis University. He spent his 40-year career in banking. He’s also quite a singer who has performed in several ShowTime musicals.

What makes it even crazier is that the day before, Don (also playing by himself), hit a great shot on the par 3 12th hole (West Course) within 3 feet. When he got home, he told his wife Teresa, that he almost made an ace on #12. He said, “Wouldn’t it have been funny if it went in and no one else saw it?” We don’t know, Don, was it funny?

Keith Granle Scores His First Ace Ever!

On June 11, Keith Granle made a hole-in-one on the 5th hole of Tuscany Falls West course. He did it while playing in a PebbleCreek Men’s Golf Association (PCMGA) event where the format was 2-net from each pair (A/B and C/D). As such, Keith now qualifies for the PCMGA annual hole-in-one prize. This was Keith’s first hole-in–one in his 45 years playing golf.

The 5th hole was playing 115 yards from the red tees to a back-right pin placement. Keith’s playing partners were Larry Burnson, Steve Schwartz, and Allen Gayken. Keith hit an 8-iron with a high left to right trajectory. The ball landed in the middle of the green, took a couple of short hops and then rolled into the cup for all to see and celebrate. At the age of 75, playing golf for 45 years and never before making an ace, Keith made the classic comment, “It’s about time!”

Keith was born and raised in Austin, Minn., a small town in southern Minnesota. He graduated from high school, junior college, and trade school all in that same area. Most of his career was spent in the Denver, Colo., area. Before retiring in 2014, he was a regional sales manager for an equipment manufacturing company that specialized in the commercial restaurant market.

When not golfing, Keith can be found in the gym or taking long walks around the community. He moved to PebbleCreek in 2020.

Peter Kirby Makes a Hole-in-One on Eagle’s Nest 8th Hole

On June 20, Peter Kirby made a hole-in-one from about 150 yards playing from the blue tees at the 8th hole on the Eagle’s Nest Golf Course. It was a back flag, which is not easy. He plays in our “Dawn Patrol” golf group. He made his only other one as a 16–year–old boy playing with his father and brother-in-law.

Peter plays three times a week and is in the Niners men’s golf group. Peter was playing with Ray Bender, George Nelson, and Jim Gillespie as well as another foursome in the next group. Peter happily bought the beer and snacks after the round. He was also low net for the group and took home the winnings.

Peter and his wife Julie moved to PebbleCreek two years ago from Connecticut where he worked as an IT Director.

Congratulations to Peter on a great shot and a nice round with a low net score of 66.
