Mike McGue Scores Ace at Eagle’s Nest

Howie Tiger

On Wednesday, March 2, Mike McGue made a hole-in-one at Eagle’s Nest golf course. His amazing shot occurred on the 17th hole during play with the Road Runners golf group.

The par-3 hole was playing 130 yards from the white tee to a front-left pin placement. He hit his 7-iron straight at the hole, landing just short of the green. His ball kicked a bit to the right and rolled directly into the hole.

His playing partners (Dave Savage, John Shellhorse, and Greg Still) joined Mike in whooping and hollering as they saw the ball disappear before their very eyes. Lots of high fives and fist bumps! Playing golf for over 50 years, this was Mike’s second hole-in-one. His first was on the 8th hole at Blackstone Country Club in Peoria, Ariz., in 2018.

Mike is a PebbleCreek Men’s Golf Association (PCMGA) member, but this hole-in-one was not made during a PCMGA event and therefore does not qualify for the annual PCMGA hole-in-one prize fund.

Mike is originally from Oakland, Calif. After graduating from St. Elizabeth High School, he served in the United States Marine Corps from 1969 to 1971. He followed in his family’s public service footsteps as a fourth generation firefighter and engineer. He served 10 years with the San Carlos Fire Department before moving to the San Jose Fire Department for another 26 years. He retired from San Jose FD in 2007. Mike also worked as an independent auto damage appraiser part time for 35 years, retiring in 2014.

Mike moved to PebbleCreek with his wife, Charla, in December 2020. Initially renting a house here, they moved into their newly built home this past November. Welcome to our community!

Congratulations to Mike on his terrific shot!

Mike Christensen celebrates his latest hole-in-one

Mike Christensen Scores a Hole-in-One During PCMGA Member-Member Tourney

Howie Tiger

On Wednesday, March 9, Mike Christensen made a hole-in-one on the 8th hole of the Eagle’s Nest course. He made this super shot while playing in the PebbleCreek Men’s Golf Association (PCMGA) Member-Member tournament. As such, Mike now qualifies to share in the annual hole-in-one prize along with Tom Sandgren.

The 8th hole was playing 142 yards from the blue tees with a middle-pin position. Mike hit his 7-iron with a low trajectory. The ball landed just short of the green and rolled uphill to the right. Mike’s teammate, Skip Holmes, started yelling, “Go ball go!” as it headed toward the hole. Apparently Skip had some magical influence on the ball as it did go and dropped into the hole. Whooping and hollering commenced as the other member-member team Larry Dick and Joe Little joined in the celebration. Mike later said, “I was happy to contribute to our team as Skip had carried me the whole day.”

Mike has been playing golf for over 50 years and never had a hole-in-one prior to moving to PebbleCreek. His first one came on the 8th hole of the East course in 2018. His second one, also with a low trajectory, came on the 17th hole of the East course in 2020. Low trajectory may be his secret to making a hole-in-one every other year. He should plan to hit it low in 2024!

Mike grew up in Ogden, Iowa, and graduated from Drake University in Des Moines. He spent his 26-year career in the U.S. Air Force retiring as a full bird Colonel. During those 26 years, he moved 12 times and was stationed in far-away places such as Turkey, the Philippines, and Saudi Arabia. He was the Supply Squadron Commander at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho. In Virginia, he was with the Air Combat Command and worked on logistical assignments for Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield.

Mike and Lavonne, his wife of 53 years, moved from Loveland, Colo., to PebbleCreek in 2017. Three holes-in-one in five years living in PebbleCreek. Not too shabby!

Congrats on this terrific shot!

PCL9GA Member Scores Her First Hole-in-One!

Diane Burns, PCL9GA President

Char Morrow, PebbleCreek Ladies Nine-Hole Golf Association (PCL9GA) member, reported her first hole-in-one on Friday, April 1, 2022, at Eagle’s Nest on hole number 8. She was 90 yards from the flag and used a 9 wood. Witnesses were her husband Ron Morrow and Glenn Doering.

Congratulations, Char!

Trish Watkins had her first hole-in-one during tournament play on March 12, 2022.

Trish’s First Hole-in-One!

Carole Schumacher

It all started as a fundraiser for the PebbleCreek Irish American Club. The club holds an annual tournament to raise funds for their charitable causes.

Trish and her husband, Pat, created a mixed couple foursome along with Gordon and Karen Griffin to play in the nine-hole tournament. At the 5th hole on Tuscany Falls West, Trish had the opportunity to vie for a golf package to Pebble Beach as a grand prize for making a hole-in-one. She’d already been there, so decided not to opt in.

She then approached the tee and used her number six rescue club combined with her ProV1x ball and holed it in one stroke.

Along with her teammates, the spotters joined in the fun by honking their horns and yelling, “Hole-in-one!”

There was also a proximity marker on the hole for closest to the pin. No one else had a chance after Trish! In lieu of the grand prize, Trish was awarded $500 for her awesome achievement!

Congratulations, Trish!
