On May 4, twelve members of the PebbleCreek Hiking Club did a hike near Piestewa Peak. This route went through a large quartz field. There were several very large (as evidenced by the boulder behind us) quartz boulders. The park actually has several veins of quartz running through it, making it one of the more unusual hiking areas in the center of Phoenix. While a small number of members do hikes in the summer, hiking in the heat is not for everyone. The next club meeting will be the third Thursday in September (the 20th) with the new hiking season starting on Monday, September 24.
