Happy and healthy New Year to all!
Our November 19 social was a busy day! We started at 8:30 a.m. check-in with the Prince representative Amanda Craddock who provided many demo tennis racquets for our players to try. She gave out several gifts for our raffles as well as a pair of tennis shoes! The donation to the Agua Fria Food Bank exceeded last year to nearly 300 pounds. We thank everyone for your generous donations. John Flynn had a full line-up of 45 members signed up to play in a round robin format. Jeanne Schimmelpfennig and the village people served another great lunch with refreshments. After lunch we had a demonstration by Todd Wheeler from Spooner Physical Therapy, who stressed the importance of warm-up stretches before you get on the court to minimize injuries.
November 22 was our inter-community tournament played against Sun City West. Each team had 18 players. PebbleCreek prevailed and won 59 to 52 games! Congratulations to the players on your victory!
December 5 Kevin Lyons, the tennis pro from Parks and Recreation Department in Goodyear, brought eight of his nine to twelve year olds for a doubles mini match paired up with eight of our ladies. Each team played four matches with plenty of exciting points. Our club has been supporting the parks program by providing used racquets and bags donated by club members. Assisting John Flynn on courts were Dan Schimmelpfennig and Jim McKenna. Jim and Troney Hutchins purchased several new racquets, headbands and tennis gear for the girls in a raffle. A big thank you to the eight ladies who made the kids feels welcome and gave them tips along the way!
Our December 11 Christmas party will be out in next month’s issue.
What a great club to join! It is the start of a new year and your New Year’s resolution should be to get on over to the Tuscany Tennis Center and put your $30 dues in the drop box for a full membership! You can play tennis 365 days this year with 13 lighted courts, 11 socials/tournaments to play in a fun format, eat, win raffle prizes and on occasion enjoy informative demonstrations. We have several inter-community competitive event tournaments, full use of the ball machine and sweeper, or you can join different programs (nine women’s and men’s leagues), or meet new players at the men’s or ladies drop in. We have daytime or evening mixed doubles for all levels and the comfort court for those returning from injury or beginners. We have clinics with a pro every Friday as well with private lessons. There is so much your tennis club offers!
Our Tennis Club board meetings are the first Wednesday of every month at 6:00 p.m. in the Tuscany Tennis Center with club members encouraged to attend. If you have any questions our club president is Jerry Santy; he can be reached at 623-271-7996. Check out our website at www.pebblecreektennis.org.
