PebbleCreek couple Tom and Jan Howard recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. They were married in Waubay, S.D., on Sept. 4, 1963. They were both students at South Dakota State University, graduating in 1965. Tom joined the United States Air Force and spent 21 years as an Air Force pilot. He served two tours in the Vietnam War, flying a total of 265 combat missions. After retiring from the Air Force, he introduced the Junior ROTC program into San Jose Unified School District, where he taught at Oak Grove High School (OGHS) for 12 years. Jan was mostly a stay-at-home mom, but did substitute teaching while raising their three boys. Once the family was grown, she taught full time, teaching special education students for 12 years, also at OGHS.

The Howards have three sons, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. They moved into PebbleCreek in October 2011. They spend their summers in Show Low.

The Howards still enjoy traveling, cards, and golf, as well as good times with family and friends.
