Gun Club aims for more pistol shooting days

Beginning this September, the PebbleCreek Gun Club has reserved space at the Joe Foss Shooting Complex every Friday for club members who shoot pistols or rifles.

“Members who have been shooting with us for a while know having these extra days is a huge deal,” declared Jerry Younker, gun club president. “In the past few years, we were afraid the Joe Foss Range (JFR) was going to close permanently, so we were delighted when it reopened and we were able to shoot a few days each month. I believe the fact that we have so many club members who volunteer to help run and oversee safe shooting at the JFR has greatly assisted in making it possible for Arizona State Rifle and Pistol Association to expand their operation of JFR; and we all benefit.”

The General Joe Foss Shooting Complex is owned by Maricopa County Parks & Recreation and operated by the Arizona State Rifle and Pistol Association (ASRPA), though it is run by an all-volunteer staff. The ASRPA is Arizona’s official state organization for the National Rifle Association and has been promoting safe and responsible firearm ownership here since 1909.

“One of ASRPA’s many important purposes is to promote the construction of shooting ranges throughout Arizona, and to also assist member clubs or government agencies with the development and operation of them. So, naturally, we are pleased to be working with the county to operate the General Joe Foss Shooting Complex,” stated Craig Joyner, ASPRA president. “There is a cadre of NRA-certified range masters, range officers and volunteers who have made shooting at the Joe Foss range both safe and enjoyable for the public, and I am pleased that so many of them have stepped forward to staff the range and keep this beautiful facility running.”
