Greg Haffley and his son Jack were the overall winners of the 2023 PebbleCreek Men’s Golf Association (PCMGA) 26th annual Member/Guest tournament. The tourney was held on April 19, 20, and 21, using all three of PebbleCreek’s courses. One hundred and six 2-man teams competed in a match play format.

There were three groups within each of the six flights. Each group consisted of six teams. Over the three days, every team played against each of the other five teams in their respective group. A point was awarded for each hole won. Highest number of accumulated points for all five matches wins their group.

Group Winners:

Flight A: Group 1—Greg Haffley/Jack Haffley, Group 2—Brian Lorenzo/Anthony Bruce, Group 3—Mikal Stampke/Troy Pudney

Flight B: Group 4—Peter Estelle/Matt Haid, Group 5—Tom Hume/Keegan Schunke, Group 6—John Low/David Low

Flight C: Group 7—Dean Goupil/Craig McCurdy, Group 8—Bill Schaffer/Mark Schaffer, Group 9—Jeff Dines/Cody Briggs

Flight D: Group 10—John McCrickard/David Prusick, Group 11—Tim Niccum/Tyler Niccum, Group 12—Bill Anderson/Scott Brunt

Flight E: Group 13—Milford Blumenthal/Michael Blumenthal, Group 14—Ed Hagstrom/Gary Lopez, Group 15—Rick Vaughn/Mitchell Nugent

Flight F: Group 16—Brian Wagner/Andrew Wagner, Group 17—Albert Williams/Shawn Lamb, Group 18—Greg Harris/Dale Hill

A playoff process using an alternate shot format determined the flight winners as well as overall winners. Initially, the three group-winning teams in each flight competed in a two-hole shootout on the front nine of the West course. The winning team from each flight then advanced to the finals to compete in another three-hole shootout on hole number 9 to determine the overall winner.

The 9th green was surrounded by spectators anxious to see the flight winners compete in the pressure packed finals. The following teams competed: Haffley/Haffley (A), Estelle/Haid (B), Schaffer/Schaffer(C), Anderson/Brunt (D), Hagstrom/Lopez (E), and Williams/Lamb (F).

The first hole of the finals played 365 yards from the blue tee. Winners in flights C through F received a one shot handicap. Schaffer/Schaffer made a net 2 and Hagstrom/Lopez made a net 3. The remaining 4 teams shot 4 or net 4 and competed in a chip off to eliminate 2 teams. Anderson/Brunt and Williams/Lamb lost the chip off and were eliminated. The second hole of the finals was played from a distance of 150 yards. Estelle/Haid made a 4 and was eliminated. The other 3 teams who scored 3 or net 3 chipped off. Schaffer/Schaffer was eliminated leaving Haffley/Haffley and Hagstrom/Lopez the final match up.

The final playoff hole was played from a distance of 80 yards. Hagstrom/Lopez made a two-putt par and Haffley/Haffley got up and down for a par. The overall winner was then determined by a chip off. Jack Haffley hit a terrific chip to less than a foot making him and his dad the overall winners.

Congratulations to all the group winners and especially Greg and Jack!

Many thanks to the Pro Shop staff and all the volunteers for all their hard work.
