Golf Cart Art

Charlene Romanos

Art Club member and resident Curtis Patchin has taken his airbrush skills to a different and unique canvas, the hard texture surface of a Yamaha golf cart.

Patchin recalls, “The clients, Ron “Doc” McGarrie and Lori McLinton, approached me in January and asked if I could custom paint their golf cart. They had this twisted type of rainbow image in mind that they had found on the web. I offered a couple of different types of designs, but Lori wanted it to pop with color. We had a couple of brief meetings to discuss layout, type of paint, and producing a painted swatch to ensure we were all on the same page for expectations. After they approved the swatch and layout, I got to work. My friend Johnnie Freerks volunteered to help out. Stripping down this vehicle was the hard part, as the headlights were a little difficult to remove, but we were able to disassemble the parts we needed to. After sanding and masking the entire golf cart, we started airbrushing the water-based candy dyes that are highly attractive in brilliant color. I employed the services of FX Auto Body to provide the high gloss clear coat. (They were very experienced in clearing golf carts.) In thirteen days they had their golf cart back and could return the borrowed one. You will see this golf cart at the pickleball courts and the golf course regularly.”

The PebbleCreek Art Club offers learning experiences and classes in colored pencil, oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastels, drawing, sculpture, airbrush, and many more.
