The PebbleCreek Genealogy Club (PCGC) next meets on Monday, Aug. 11 from 9 a.m. to noon.
PCGC meets the second Monday of each month in the Palm Room in the Eagle’s Nest Clubhouse from from 9 a.m. to noon. Guests are always welcome to our speaker programs!
In August we will hold a members-only workshop instead of following the usual business meeting and speaker format. This workshop, led by Kevin Campbell, will focus on using FamilySearch. He will highlight the new full text search capability and other useful tools to maximize your use of the site. As for the usual meetings, the workshop will be in the Palm Room in the Eagle’s Nest Clubhouse from from 9 a.m. to noon. Bring your laptop or tablet, a research question (or two or three) and explore these resources with us.
Coming Up
Our guest speakers will return starting in September with the following programs:
Sept. 8: “Facts Not Fables: The Art of Evidence-Based Genealogy” by John Spearman.
Oct. 13: “Using Probate Records for Genealogical Research” by Janna Larson.
Nov. 10: “The Mayflower: An Interesting Mix of Passengers” by Suzanne Brayer.
January and beyond: The Program Committee is finalizing speakers on using newspapers, census records, U.S. immigration and naturalization records, DNA testing, and organizing your research. Stay tuned for details.
What did you miss? On July 14 a workshop was held on using Ancestry to dig more deeply into your family history. Marsha Wallick and Jayne Parise ably provided assistance on how to optimally use Ancestry to research your family tree. Members received tips and assistance and found the help very useful.
On the social front. Members are enjoying our monthly luncheons; it’s a great opportunity to get to know one another and discuss genealogy and more. Members should keep an eye out for an email regarding dates and locations.
We’ll be gathering at the Oasis Pool on Aug. 14 for an evening potluck and again for our Dec. 8 meeting when we will share holiday memories and traditions.
Genealogy Detectives are available to assist members on starting their research or for when they are “stuck.” Sometimes it is just a matter of getting organized or getting assistance on where or how to start searching for your family. The Genealogy Detectives can help jumpstart your search.
Visit our website at pebblecreekgenealogy.club for more information about PCGC and our special programs such as Genealogy Detectives. General information is open to all site visitors with additional content (including Genealogy Detectives) available to members only. This is another member benefit and another great reason to join PCGC.
