The PebbleCreek Genealogy Club (PCGC) will next meet on Monday, Dec. 9 from 9 a.m. to noon.
PCGC meets the second Monday of each month in the Palm Room in the Eagle’s Nest Clubhouse. Meetings start at 9 a.m. with a short business meeting, followed by Tips and Tricks and then an invited speaker. Guests are always welcome!
On Dec. 9 we are deviating from the usual format and will not have a speaker. Our focus will be on social time with members sharing holiday traditions, memories, special ornaments, food, and celebrations.
In November we heard from Robert M. Willbanks IV who spoke on “U.S. Civil War History and Genealogy Research.” Members enjoyed the historical overview, the discussion on the effect of the Civil War on families, the review of the military at the time, and all the other fascinating information presented. It was a must for those researching in that era, but also interesting just for the history and background. See his website at robertwilbanks.com.
In October several members visited the West Valley Genealogical Society Library for their annual open house. The group was given a tour to take in their amazing multimedia collection of personal genealogies, maps, state- and international-based resources. This includes thousands of CDs, books, and periodicals. We were introduced to their robust Special Interest Group (SIG) program, where sharing information leads to collaborative research. The group also conducts classes on a wide range of topics. Learn more about them at azwvgs.org.
We’ve started having a monthly luncheon for members at Eagle’s Nest. Members have enjoyed meeting to discuss more than just genealogy and to get to know one another. We are looking forward to trying the Westwind Tavern over at Tuscany Falls. The date for the December lunch is pending. Members should keep an eye out for an email regarding that.
The PCGC Program Committee is busy planning a great series of programs for 2025 starting when we return after the holidays on Jan. 13. Also in the works is a visit to the McClelland Irish Library in Phoenix and a repeat venture to the Family Search Center in Mesa.
Hope to see you on Dec. 9 as we learn more about discovering our families!
